Happy Sunday! Here's a quick look back at last week and what's on the calendar for the week ahead.
Last week in review
- Mortgage rates eased a little. Freddie Mac's weekly survey put the average 30-year fixed rate at 7.32% as of October 22, 2026, down from 7.40% in each of the two weeks before.
- California's September numbers came out. The California Association of REALTORS® reported a statewide median price of $899,720, up 1.7% from September 2025, while sales slowed to a pace of 260,410 homes a year, down 6.5% from a year earlier.
What to watch this week
- Tuesday–Wednesday, October 27–28: Federal Reserve meeting. The Fed announces its interest rate decision at the end of the meeting on Wednesday. The Fed doesn't set mortgage rates directly, but what it says about inflation and the economy can move them.
- Thursday, October 29: GDP and inflation. The Bureau of Economic Analysis releases its first estimate of third-quarter GDP and the September Personal Income and Outlays report, which includes the PCE inflation measure the Fed watches closely.
- Thursday, October 29: Freddie Mac's weekly rate survey. We'll see whether last week's small dip holds.
- Friday, October 30: Employment Cost Index. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports third-quarter wage and benefit costs, another number markets watch for inflation pressure.
What this could mean for you
If you're buying: With several big reports landing in a few days, rates could move in either direction this week. If you're shopping, talk with your lender about how and when to lock a rate, and keep your budget based on today's numbers, not hoped-for ones.
If you're selling: Sales are slower than a year ago, so buyers have more time to compare. Pricing to current comparable sales and having your home ready to show can help you stand out, whatever the headlines say.

¡Feliz domingo!
